As Ethiopia marks yet another year of conflict, U.S. Ambassador Ervin Massinga has issued a compelling statement urging all parties to prioritize peace, stability, and the well-being of the Ethiopian people.

In a message shared on the official Facebook page of the U.S. Embassy in Addis Ababa, Ambassador Massinga reflected on the grave impact ongoing conflicts have had across the country, especially on children and displaced populations.

“It’s time to put people first by implementing lasting solutions to Ethiopia’s internal conflicts,” he stated. “This includes enabling internally displaced persons to return home, ensuring children can attend school and access health care, and ending lawlessness that masquerades as part of armed struggle.”

The ambassador called on all major actors in the conflict to engage constructively. He urged the Fano militia to present “realistic and peaceful objectives,” encouraged the Oromo Liberation Army (OLA) to advance negotiations to end fighting in Oromia, and strongly appealed to the Ethiopian federal government to “immediately cease the use of drone strikes against its own people and facilitate resolutions.”

Ambassador Massinga concluded his message with a call for collective action:
“It is time to pursue peace and stability.”

The statement comes at a critical juncture as violence and instability continue to impact millions across Ethiopia.
